Whether you’re just starting out on your fitness journey, you’ve been working out for a few months, or you’ve been doing it for years, you may not know what the five main components of fitness are. Each of these components are extremely important when it comes to working out and staying healthy. In this blog we will discuss what these five components are as well as why they are beneficial and necessary for your fitness journey.
The first component is Muscular Strength. This is the power behind everything you do without this your body would be weak and unable to even lift your own bones. Everyone naturally has muscular strength from normal age development, but you should train yourself to become stronger so you can always meet the physical demands of the world. This is where weight training comes in. The way to increase strength is to train with heavy weights, working in the 4 – 6 or 12 – 15 rep ranges. Test your limits before going for heavy weight. Without correct form and doable weights you become increasingly more likely to injure yourself.
The second component is Muscular Endurance. This is the ability to do heavy lifting requirements for extended periods of time. Rather than lifting or carrying something for a few seconds, the muscles need to be able to withstand weight for minutes. The way to increase strength is to train with light weights, working in the 20 – 25 rep range. Try using lighter weight when doing these exercises to train your muscle fibers.
The third component is Cardiovascular Endurance. This is your body's ability to sustain exercises such as running, swimming, and cycling. Together, the heart and lungs fuel your body with the oxygen needed by your muscles, ensuring that they have the oxygen needed for the work they are doing. Training your body to be able to sustain these exercises for extended periods of time is the best way to train your lungs to better supply your body with oxygen.
The fourth component is Flexibility. The most often overlooked section of fitness, flexibility training ensures that your body can move through its entire range of motion without pain or stiffness. Without a solid range of flexibility our joints would become stiff and unmoving which would be wildly uncomfortable. Try some simple yoga exercises to train your flexibility. If yoga isn’t for you try and do some stretching exercises before and after your workouts.
The final component is Body Fat Composition. Body fat composition refers to the amount of fat on your body. For example, a 100-pound person with a 25% body fat composition will have a lean body mass of 75 pounds. There are ways to track your body fat percentage such as this website https://www.active.com/fitness/calculators/bodyfat recommend that you take the time to find out your body fat composition. Please remember that every person has some measure of body fat and it is important to have it. We advise speaking with a trained professional if you are concerned with your body fat composition.
These are all the 5 components of fitness. Try and incorporate all five into your workout routine to better your fitness goals and workouts. For more healthy and nutritious blogs feel free to check out blendiblender.com!
